Dear Dilley Parents and Families,
We have worked in partnership with the local public health authority to recommend that Dilley Elementary, in the Forest Grove School District, close temporarily on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. For those families who normally participate in free/reduced lunch, there will be sack lunches available for pick up at Dilley between 9am and 12pm.
This shift to our regular schedule is due to an increased number of students that are ill. The district communicable disease plan is built in accordance with the Washington County Health Department recommendations of possible closure once 30% of the student base is absent due to illness. Unfortunately, we have exceeded that recommendation as of November 21, 2022. Dilley Elementary school will be closed until Monday, November 28, 2022 and students should continue to stay home if ill.
Below are some steps you can take to help reduce your risk to illness.
-
Wash your hands often. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, and help young children do the same. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
-
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Germs spread this way.
-
Avoid close contact with sick people. Avoid close contact, such as kissing, and sharing cups or eating utensils with people who have cold-like symptoms.
-
Cover your coughs and sneezes. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your upper shirt sleeve when coughing or sneezing. Throw the tissue in the trash, follow with handwashing.
-
Clean and disinfect surfaces. Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that people frequently touch, such as toys, doorknobs, and mobile devices.
With the information regarding the current illnesses primarily being transmitted by droplets in the air when people cough or sneeze, the district will be providing additional cleaning and sanitizing procedures, including fogging, during the closure.
We know this is a hard time for our community and our hearts go out to those who are ill.
Thank you,
Forest Grove School District
